While writing posts and tracking issues for Senior Care Corner, our original senior care site, we have realized that technology and what it can do will be of growing importance to seniors.  With baby boomers beginning to reach retirement age and most stating a preference for wanting to stay at home, technological advances will make it easier for seniors to stay in their homes longer, even if they are alone.  While the adoption of technology and use of the internet is growing among seniors, their loved ones and caregivers will likely play a major role in the selection and implementation of new systems and devices.  Just as Senior Care Corner provides information for those loved ones and caregivers, Senior Home Technology will provide information they and the seniors for and about whom they care will find useful.

It is no coincidence that the kickoff of Senior Home Technology is timed to coincide with the 2011 International Consumer Electronics show.  The consumer electronics industry has recognized the growing senior market and its needs, with current and future solutions offerings being prominently featured in the show.  There is an entire track of sessions, Silvers Summit, discussing the needs and opportunities of this market segment.

We will be attending the Consumer Electronics Show and the Silvers Summit and will provide updates via this blog and @SrCareCorner, the Twitter page we share with Senior Care Corner.   Beyond that, we will be providing updates and reviewing technology on an ongoing basis.  We have joined the Consumer Electronics Association in order to stay on top of the latest and be able to provide you with inside information on the electronics industry as it relates to meeting the needs of seniors.
